Michalis Cholevas is a multi-instrumentalist playing the Ney, Saz, Tarhu and Yayli tanbour.

He studied Classical, Jazz, Byzantine and Ottoman Music at the music high school of Pallini

and the municipal Conservatory of Piraeus, Greece. 

 

Enraptured by physics, he quit music for 7 years and followed Bachelor and Master courses

in Natural studies and Physics and he found his way back to music after a course on Ney with

the great teacher and musician Omer Erdogdular. Michalis was lucky enough to study also

with Erdal Erzincan, Kudsi Erguner, Marios Mavroedis and George Kontrafouris. This lead to

a Master in Music and a research project of Harmony and Turkish music at Rotterdam Conservatory

under a scholarship of the Dutch Ministry of Education

 

During his musical life, Michalis performed and collaborated with several artists including Louisiana Red,

Angelo Bandalamenti, the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra, Apollon Musagete Quartett, Kostantia Gourzi

and George Kontrafouris.
