ReMuse |rēˈmyoōz|

verb

  • to (re)make music from existing elements,
  • to (re)inspire (Muses in Ancient Greek mythology were the nine goddesses, the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, who preside over the arts and sciences).

The ReMuse group was created by four musicians coming from four cities of the Mediterranean coast (Athens, Granada, Perpignan and Tel Aviv), each one carrying a unique musical and cultural background.

Jean - Cristophe Bonnafus (Bansuri), Michalis Cholevas (Ney, Tarhu and Saz), Miguel Garcia (Percussion) and Oded Tzur (Saxophone) met at the World Music and Dance Center, Rotterdam and since their first meeting experienced mutual inspiration and pleasure by playing music in a synergetic manner. This led to the formation of the ReMuse group.

The ensemble’s work is a joint process of relearning and reconsidering the versatile knowledge possessed by its four members, in the musical traditions of the Mediterranean, India, Ottoman and Jazz. Combined with a free-flowing approach to music making, the group manages to handle a variety of different sounds, rhythms and tuning systems to create a unique musical experience: While evidently derived from its different components, it also has an independent voice of its own.
